"Artworks, made by AI trained on millions of human-created images, raise the question: Who is really the artist? Is it the person using the AI tool? The people who programmed it? Or is the creator now a distributed entity, spread among the countless artists and photographers who made the pictures that trained the AI? Most artists I spoke to who use AI image generation seem happy to call the output their own, but critics argue that this is not art in any sense we have previously understood the term."
With Generated AI it is going to get weird...
Generative Tech Begins
"If Web1 was βread only,β and Web2 is βread-write,β and then Generative Tech is βread-write-generateβ then that makes Web 3 βread-write-generate-ownβ. Generative Tech is now happening in parallel to Web3 and moving faster. If crypto hadnβt happened, weβd probably be calling THIS Web3. But we do have crypto, so we call this Generative Tech, but other names could be Web3A, Generative Web or even Generative Internet."
Most interesting part about this article is that the author isn't scared of what will become of human creativity. He sees AI as a an incredible kickstarter for all kinds of projects. The time between the spark of an idea and the first draft will decrease incredibely.
War of the Art Worlds: Generative AI Sparks a New Culture Clash Among Creatives
"The age-old question βBut is it art?β takes on an air of menace with the advent of Dall-E, Stable Diffusion and other AI programs."
Artists Say AI Image Generators Are Copying Their Style to make thousands of new images β and it's completely out of their control
"So if an AI is copying an artist's style and a company can just get an image generated that's similar to a popular artist's style without actually going to artists to pay them for that work, that could become an issue."
It's an explosion of imitation...
AI-Generated Art Sparks Furious Backlash From Japanβs Anime Community
"On October 3, renowned South Korean illustrator Kim Jung Gi passed away unexpectedly at the age of 47. He was beloved for his innovative ink-and-brushwork style of manhwa, or Korean comic-book art, and famous for captivating audiences by live-drawing huge, intricate scenes from memory.
Just days afterward, a former French game developer, known online as 5you, fed Jung Giβs work into an AI model. He shared the model on Twitter as an homage to the artist, allowing any user to create Jung Gi-style art with a simple text prompt. The artworks showed dystopian battlefields and bustling food markets β eerily accurate in style, and, apart from some telltale warping, as detailed as Jung Giβs own creations.
The response was pure disdain."
Why AI Will Never Replace Human Creativity
Celebrity Deepfakes Are Coming To Advertising
"Digital simulations of Elon Musk, Tom Cruise, Leo DiCaprio and others have shown up in ads, as the image-melding technology grows more popular and presents the marketing industry with new legal and ethical questions. [...] None of these celebrities ever spent a moment filming these campaigns. In the cases of Musk, Cruise and DiCaprio, they never even agreed to endorse the companies in question."
